How To Clean Your Microfiber Furniture

Taking proper care of your microfiber furniture is the best way to keep it looking great and last a long time. If something spills on your microfiber you need to get to it as soon as you can so that you can properly clean it and avoid a stain. But if you aren’t careful you can damage the microfiber. The moment something spills on the microfiber get a white paper towel and gently blot as much of the spill as possible. If you catch the spill early enough this may all that will be needed, but be careful that you do not rub the liquid into the fabric.

If something gooey dried on the microfiber you can use a spatula or the edge of a sppon and try to scrape as much of the dried stuff off as possible without rubbing it into the microfiber. To clean microfiber you can use microfiber cleanser or you can make your own at home. Mix 2 cups of distilled water with 2 tablespoons of natural dish soap- or one cup distilled water and one tablespoon dish soap depending on how much you need. Using a clean sponge or a white cloth gently massage the homemade cleanser onto the stained area. Work the stain from the outside working toward the inside so that you don’t spread the stain. Repeat this until the stain is gone.

If the stain is greasy you may need to add a little more dish soap to the cleansing solution and let it rest on the greasy stain for 5 minutes to loosen the grease and dirt off the microfiber. With all cleansers use a small portion on an area that isn’t noticeable to make sure that it isn’t going to alter the color or disfigure the microfiber- this cleanser shouldn’t damage your microfiber but it is always a good idea to check first.

Rinse out all of the soap by using a different clean sponge and fresh distilled water. Soak up a small amount of distilled water so that the sponge is damp- squeeze out any water if needed. Wipe the cleaned spot with the sponge and try to push the sponge into the microfiber gently so that it will soak up the soap and suds. Rinse the sponge out and repeat until you get all the suds out. Make sure that you always use distilled water so that it doesn’t leave water spots in the microfiber. Allow the microfiber to dry completely. Allow the microfiber to air dry and don’t use a blow dryer since heat damages microfiber. After the microfiber is completely dry use a suede brush to smooth it out and make it soft again.
